I found Elizabeth House after my Mum had spent some time in hospital after breaking her shoulder. I was told that she couldn’t go home and needed full time care as she had advanced dementia.
The social worker at the hospital gave me a list of care homes and told me not to be influenced by the decor and furnishings of the new and expensive homes but to look for one that is homely and has caring staff. She mentioned Elizabeth House as fitting that bill along with one other. I visited both and thought Elizabeth House had the best atmosphere and felt that the residents looked happy and contented which wasn’t always the case elsewhere.
My Mum moved in and we never looked back. She was the happiest that she had been for many years and regularly told the staff that she loved them. The staff in turn were caring and loving, going way beyond their duties in order to provide care for her.
When Mum reached the end of her life, as well as her family being with her, there was a steady stream of staff who were off duty coming in to say “goodbye”. The Manager, Joanne stayed beyond her home time, in order to be there at the end, something that I know she does for every resident at whatever time of day or night. It truly is a special place with very special staff.
