Dad moved into Elizabeth House on 15th September 2022.He settled in quickly and soon saw it as his home. Prior to his arrival, my brother and I had been caring for him full time in his own home for 3 vears.
It was a very difficult initial decision to move him in to residential care, but one which we quickly became aware was the right one. as we saw how well looked after he was at Elizabeth House. The care he received was of a consistently high standard. He always looked smart, clean and he was treated with sensitivity and compassion. He quickly established strong relationships with all of the staff and he very much saw them as his family.
Dad was diagnosed with dementia during his time at the home and he was always treated by staff with patience, kindness and understanding. During the period he was there, he was happy and settled. He especially enjoyed the singing and music activities.
We have been so impressed with the quality of care - the home was always clean and had a very welcoming atmosphere and the food was of a high standard. It was always clear when visiting the home, that there was a strong emphasis on ensuring the dignity and wellbeing of residents emotionally and physically. All the staff have consistently displayed kindness, patience. and good humour. We quickly became aware of how very lucky he was to have secured a place there. My brother and I visited Dad regularly and it was a happy experience going into the home and spending time there.
On the occasions when Dad required medical support, staff responded to his needs quickly and sensitively. We were regularly kept updated about all matters relating to his health and staff had a good knowledge of his health issues.
During the last few weeks when Dad's health declined, initiatives were taken promptly by the home to support Dad with the difficulties he was experiencing in terms of eating. Careful monitoring, assessment and support were taken to help him.
He received superb end of life care and as a family we are so grateful for the kindness and love, he and we received as his life came to an end.
